El Norte

Amazing food at its heart

El Norte, based in the heart of Mayfair on Dover Street, is another fabulous culinary delight from the Zandi brothers, Arian and Alberto who also founded the wonderful Como Garden and the lively Zuya, and now the charming El Norte is taking centre stage by exuding an exquisite celebration of Spain’s culinary legacy within an upscale and lively ambience.

They are meticulous about creating a seamless blend of Spanish cuisine’s vibrant and delectable flavours in a contemporary setting that is perfect for groups or loved ones celebrating a special occasion.

The menu at El Norte is a foodie’s delight as it is designed around sharing small plates for everyone to enjoy and then choosing a main with a side to finish off a wonderful evening. It is recommended that 3-4 are ordered per person to really experience the expanse and culinary craftsmanship of their chiefs, and we couldn’t agree more.

El Norte’s signature dishes such as the truffle-infused tortilla, velvety croquettes, Joselito Iberico Ham, cherry pistachio gazpacho, and the premium stone-cooked “Vaca Rubia Gallega” steak, among many mouth-watering others, are carefully curated. You will also find that the wine menu also features acclaimed Spanish labels thoughtfully chosen to complement the wonderful culinary creations that El Norte provides.

We chose a selection that included Spanish olives marinated in oranges from Valencia, which were divine, salt and lime pardon peppers that had been beautifully roasted, and a crispy chicken bombon which was so succulent that you will certainly want to order another one.

Whilst also enjoying the amazing taste of the Joselito ham croquette, which brought together the celebrated and diverse flavours of Spain, while showcasing the incredible skill and sophistication of the menu at El Norte.

When it comes to mains, you are really spoilt for choice, each one sounding truly wonderful that picking might be a big decision, but whatever you do pick you won’t be disappointed. We chose the magnificent beef fillet with red wine sauce and the glorious glazed Iberian pork with celeriac puree, each combined with a side of the Spanish oven-baked potatoes, truffled mashed potato, grilled green asparagus and the wonderful green salad with tomato and olive oil.

Each mouthful was a true delight, with rich flavours and perfectly cooked beef and pork making dining at El Norte not just a wonderful occasion, but truly elevating it into an evening that we will always remember. Each plate was delivered smartly and professionally by the wonderful staff, who truly go above and beyond to make your dining experience one of the best in London, and we haven’t even got to desert yet!

While desserts are limited to six choices, they have all been hand-selected to fly the flag of Spanish cuisine at El Norte and we can say that they are out of this world. We chose the Basque cheesecake and the beautiful chocolate sphere and crème anglaise.

Both were utterly mesmerising and sent our tastebuds into overdrive. The cheesecake was one of the best I have ever tasted offering a richness one can only describe as magical. Those who love a show will instantly fall in love with the chocolate sphere as your happy waiter pours over your hot velvet chocolate sauce to open your dessert and its creme anglaise.

Dining at El Norte is quite possibly one of the smartest decisions you can make while looking for contemporary dining which offers the best atmosphere, dining experience and wonderful cocktails, which all comes together to present the best of Spanish cuisine.

The sharing of plates and ethos of enjoying one’s food is at the heart of El Norte, and of course Spanish culture and we can highly recommend booking El Norte if you want to take your loved one or group to experience something truly special.
