A Sunlit Symphony of Flavour at Bahía del Duque
The prestigious Bahía del Duque unveils its latest gastronomic gem: Upalupa, a refined Mediterranean restaurant nestled along the sun-kissed shores of Costa Adeje. Framed by panoramic views across the Atlantic Ocean and the island of La Gomera, Upalupa is a bold and beautiful new chapter in the resort’s celebrated culinary narrative — one that blends the rhythms of the sea with the flavours of the Mediterranean in effortless harmony.
Poised on the golden sands of Playa del Duque, Upalupa has been conceived as a dual-concept dining destination. A serene “relax zone” invites guests to linger over elegant lunches, soothed by the ocean breeze, while a chic lounge space offers a livelier, more social experience as day fades to dusk. Chill-out music sets the tone for an atmosphere that is both elevated and unpretentious — beachside sophistication at its finest.

At the heart of Upalupa lies a menu that honours provenance and seasonality, shaped by the island’s natural abundance and Mediterranean culinary heritage. Premium meats and fresh local fish are delicately prepared in a Josper oven — a technique that enhances both flavour and texture. Highlights include black cherne (a prized local sea bass) wrapped in banana leaf, as well as succulent Tomahawk steak. Meanwhile, slow-cooked rice dishes showcase earthy, expressive combinations, such as Iberian pork shoulder paired with native Tenerife mushrooms, offering depth, richness and balance.
The experience is further elevated by a signature cocktail menu inspired by the world’s climatic zones — from tropical to alpine — with each creation crafted to complement the kitchen’s refined flavour profiles. An expertly curated wine list features selections from volcanic vineyards, coastal terroirs and high-altitude plots, ensuring each pairing is as thoughtful as it is memorable.

Upalupa forms part of Bahía del Duque, an icon of Canarian luxury that has redefined resort hospitality since its opening in 1993. Designed by architect Andrés Piñeiro to emulate a traditional Canarian village — complete with bell towers, colonnaded balconies and tiled courtyards — the resort is a masterpiece of architecture and landscape. It offers 346 rooms, 58 suites and 40 private villas, including the lavish Las Mimosas residences, each with its own private pool, garden and dedicated butler service.
Spanning over 63,000 square metres of lush subtropical gardens, the resort boasts five pools, a full wellness retreat with open-air thalassotherapy circuit, and an enviable range of sports and leisure facilities — including tennis courts, a gym, and pitch-and-putt golf. Culinary offerings abound, with nine à la carte restaurants (including the Michelin-starred Nub) and 12 atmospheric bars.
As the newest addition to this illustrious portfolio, Upalupa captures the essence of Bahía del Duque — a perfect synthesis of beauty, flavour and coastal serenity. It’s more than a restaurant; it’s a destination in its own right, where the pleasures of fine food, sea air and refined design converge in every moment.
