Step into the future with the Honda e:Ny1

In a world where the day of the combustion engine is near the end, and electric vehicles are on the rise it was only a matter of time before Honda, the renowned car maker of wonderful hybrid cars stepped into the ring to separate the wheat from the chaff in the EV industry.

The Honda e:Ny1 is the company's first fully-electric SUV, and with a generation one car, you always think “the next one will be great” but with the Honda e:Ny1 it's not just great it’s incredible! This is a fully-electric SUV that has amazing styling, an exhibitor that wouldn’t look out of place on some of the most expensive cars in the world, with a fantastic interior to match, and outstanding technology all for just over £44,000 - it is incredible value for money.

Keeping with its looks our model featured a fantastic red metallic paint that Honda calls ‘Vermillion Red Pearl’ which is a £650 extra, but it really does show off the sophistication of this amazing EV, when the light hits the bodywork on a clear day it looks like something from the future, and at night it looks like a jewel shining bright under the floodlights.

All this wrapped up with the back-to-the-future-esc typeface of the Honda logo on the back, futuristic wrap-around headlights and rear lights make the Honda e:Ny1 a real head turner - and that's just the outside.

Inside you will find the most futuristic display and navigation screen I have ever seen on a brand new car, this gorgeous 15.1” display is breath-taking and acts as the car's central control station, whether you want to listen to the radio, set navigation or just see your EV settings this display is outstanding and one of the best displays I have ever seen equipped to any vehicle.

The driver display also has bright, crisp and features with just about everything you want to know, such as distance travelled, how many miles are left on your charge, and of course the biggest question in any EV, how much battery you have left.

Each of these little details makes living with the Honda e:Ny1 a dream, and for the price, this is a stunning car for the money. But we must talk about charging, this being Honda’s second fully-electric car, and its first electric SUV its charging capabilities might not be as fast as some rivals.

However, The Honda e:Ny1 features a 68kWh battery and when fully charged you get 256 miles of range which I think is a good amount of range for a big SUV like this, which roughly equates to around £40 depending on the price per kWh and the charger available to you.

While there are plenty of fast-charging options in bigger cities, I would suggest planning your route if you want to travel into the countryside, we used the apps like ZapMap to locate charging points in our local area and we were lucky to have 6 charging points in a 3-mile area,

When charging while out and about shopping or visiting friends we had no issues with false charging at all and managed to gain a reasonable power percentage, one take away though is to install the PodPoint and ZapMap apps as soon as you take ownership of your EV - these two apps are your guiding light to finding a charging point in your area fast, as and when you need them and proved themselves invaluable when visiting locations that you’re familiar with.

Overall, I think that Honda has really hit the nail on the head with the e:Nvy1 as its first electric SUV, the car looks fantastic, it's a pleasure to drive, gives great feedback on the road and power delivery is quick, but not in an over the top way, the torque is delivered smooth enough that you're not jolted back into your seat, which I personal prefer.

Again I must refer to the style of the Honda e:Ny1 - it's superb, and it looks and feels like a £100,000 car rather than a £44,000. This says a lot about the love, dedication and technology Honda has thrown into this electric SUV to make it the best experience possible.

EV’s are a different mind-set and you have to be prepared for that going forward, as I think it's a remarkable EV for the price, the quality, size and technology, we’d would highly recommend testing one for yourself to see if it will be your electric SUV for the future.
