THE GUARDSMAN

Situated just moments away from Buckingham Palace you will find the newly opened hotel, The Guardsman. This new 5-star hotel located in Westminster offers its guests the best experience one could ever ask for in a glorious location.

We were lucky enough to try out the facilities ourselves and found The Guardsman to deliver an exceptional service from the moment you step through the door. First you are greeted by its beautiful exterior, from its beautiful grey stonework and long windows, all clad in beautiful gilt metal work that oozes luxury. You know you have arrived at a prestigious place indeed.

Upon entering, staff go above and beyond to make sure your stay is as perfect as possible and catered to your every need. You are seated in the modern and extremely luxurious Drawing Room and are run through your stay, when you want to check-out, breakfast, lunch, dinner and any other requirements you might need. The Guardsman is all about the personal touch, they get to know each guest which is incredibly refreshing and they certainly live up to their mantra of making you feel “pampered, not pressured”.

Adjoining the Drawing Room is the Library, where both locations provide extreme comfort and excellent seating arrangements for a number of guests. These spaces are deigned to be used and to relax in. You can order drinks from the bar direct from your seat and are simply encouraged to sit back and enjoy the atmosphere of this exceptional building and its glorious décor, whilst being waited on by some of the most polite and knowledgeable staff around, offering a club like atmosphere to all its guests.

This pampering and exquisite décor does not stop there and each room is decorated to the highest standard, which one could only description as regal. During our stay we were booked into their signature room called Guardsman Rooms, these rooms are extremely spacious and filled with modern chic furnishings fit for a King or Queen. Fitted with the extremely popular “In Room Bath” and interconnecting bathroom, this room could be taken from Grand Designs itself. To its underfloor heating, superb bath, walk in shower, gorgeous desk in the living and excellent seating you are not left wanting. Overlooking Buckingham Gate and across the rooftops of St James’s you certainly feel at one with the most prestigious locations within London.

The personal touch continues when it comes to breakfast, you can have it sat down in the beautiful bar/lounge area, more on that in a moment, or you can have it in your room. A wonderful selection is on offer to suit any dietary requirements and if you don’t fancy what is on offer you can simply let The Guardsman know what you want, and they will provide it with professionalism and a smile.

Now, more about the amazing dining area. On the lower ground floor, you will be presented with the Dinning Room which again highlights the luxurious décor, rich marble flooring and tables that implement the gilt metal work in its surroundings provide perfect symmetry to the rooms above. You can access this via the lift but to make it extra special I would recommend taking the marvellous glass and metalwork winding staircase which is a work of art in its own right.

For breakfast we went with the Full English and Smashed Avocado with poached eggs accompanied with toast, fresh orange juice and a wonderful pot of tea. As you can imagine everything was outstanding and really set us up for the day ahead for exploration.

Whilst having seen the Changing of The Guard, it was time for lunch and welcoming drinks. We were presented with a Queen Bee cocktail, the signature cocktail of The Guardsman that is Gin based and served with honey instead of syrup for sweetness, it was extremely refreshing and welcoming after a few hours of exploring London. I would highly recommend this cocktail to anyone looking for that afternoon “pick me up” whilst on your stay. For lunch we were presented with a brilliant menu that would tantalise anyone’s taste buds, this comes down to The Guardsman running a regularly changing menu to offer the freshest and most seasonal dishes.

We opted for the chicken caesar salad and seared cod loin. The caesar salad was wonderfully prepared with succulent grilled chicken breast and freshly made to order dressing. The seared cod loin was skilfully cooked and lay on a bed of fresh mint peas with smoked bacon along with a side order of chunky chips cooked in beef dripping. For dessert an Eton Mess and Lemon Tart with raspberry sorbet was enjoyed, not only for their presentation but for their freshness as well, all of this along with a lemonade and local Camden Hells Larger proved to be a most enjoyable meal anyone could ask for and which I would highly recommend to anyone.

To conclude this, The Guardsman is a must stay location for those who regularly visit London or to those who are new and want the best time possible. It’s location to all popular London destinations is flawless, its rooms outstanding, and its staff are mavericks in their field. We would highly recommend staying and trying it for yourself, as we plan to again in the very near future.
