THE BEAUMONT

The Beaumont has the pinnacle of art deco design with the sophistication of luxury that is only found in the best hotels across the world. It might seem like a by-gone era, but that is what makes The Beaumont so special and timeless, the moment you get out of your car or cab the Porter is waiting to take your luggage and the doorman is there to greet you with a smile, making the check-in process completely seamless.

On entering you are presented by gorgeous marble floors with rich dark wood furnishings and amazing floral displays, making you truly feel you have arrived at one of the best luxury hotels in the world. On the ground floor The Beaumont offers a luxury seated lobby area, perfectly quiet, suitable to wait for other guests you might be staying with or if you need to perform a quiet business call or video chat.

Towards the far end of the long lobby area you are presented with a beautifully decorated bar area with black and white photographs on the walls, along with rich leather seating in beautiful red and plum colouring, like something you would find in a highly exclusive gentleman’s club,  perfect to have a quiet drink and read the latest issue of The Gentleman Magazine or soak up the atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of Mayfair.

For those who are seeking light refreshments or drinks with a more traditional atmosphere I would highly recommend The Gatsby Room, located between the main lobby and the main restaurant, here you will find splendid rich wall art, a library and high-class seating all rolled up into an intimate and private experience, which is softened by the tone of beautiful music played on a grand piano by The Beaumont’s talented pianist. This room is a favourite among many visitors, and it was a pure joy to witness.

For those that seek luxury and wellness, you will find on the lower ground floor a luxury spa experience awaits, in the form of treatments, first class gym and in-house hairdresser and boutique that can be booked at reception anytime you need it, so you will always feel and look your best, just when you need it most.

We were lucky enough to stay in a suite with an outside balcony and views across London, on entering we were drawn back to a time when luxury was at its peak, the room is designed around 1920’s high luxury that even in todays standards is timeless and unbeatable. Our bags were brought up to the room and our porter explained the amenities in the room to the highest standard, the room featured everything one could ever want or need whilst staying away from home, yes, the traditional tea and coffee making facilities are present, but The Beaumont is all about the finer details that make it so special.

Our room was supplied with our very own milk and dark chocolate, one solid bar of each, two chocolate bonbons supplied on the side with a fresh fruit basket, both filled the room with a wonderful aroma of citrus and rich aromatic flavours from the crushed cocoa beans. Branded stationery to use at our leisure and ice-cold champagne on top of the most beautiful writing desk that transformed into a vanity table.

Everything about The Beaumont screams sophistication and luxury, and then there is the bathroom, with its palladia style of rich black and white marble countertops and exquisite mosaic floor, his and her sinks, it’s what you dream about having in your own home.

Now on to the dining experience, The Colony located within The Beaumont is an Art Deco inspired restaurant located beyond The Gatsby Room, but still within a distance to hear the beautiful pianist playing on the grand piano. Within the restaurant you will find rich leather upholstery, beautiful marble corner stations, and gorgeous dark wood tables that fill the area of this gentleman’s club style appearance, with exemplary staff to match. Upon entering we were introduced to the manager who made sure that our every need was attended to until leaving us in the capable hands of the waiter and the in-house sommelier, who kindly chose a wonderful Rose to accompany our meal. Every little detail is precise and to the point within the restaurant, serving only the best in local produce or select ingredients from across the United Kingdom, from the freshest smoked salmon from Scotland to Cornish lamb, all handpicked for The Colony.

We were fortunate to try the smoked salmon and soup of the day for our starters, both equally delicious and for our mains we both chose steak, one fillet and the other a New York strip. Both came served piping hot and professionally delivered on a table trolly and were presented most beautifully. Both came with a beef bone marrow reduction, which was pure perfection, and an option of mashed potato, baby sprouting broccoli or chunky chips. Everything about this main was outstanding, in fact I don’t think I have ever had a steak cooked this good – it was outstanding, and it cut like butter and melted in the mouth, a pure delight to eat.

For dessert we ordered the chocolate mousse which was absolutely delicious and we simply had to order The Colony famous Sundae, you have the option to select a few from the menu or you are presented with an order ticket and can customise your own, naturally we designed our own creation of chocolate, salted caramel and coffee ice cream along with cream, chocolate sauce and honeycomb. To say this Sundae was a work of art and a mountainous portion would be an understatement and it certainly got a few looks from new arrivals just being seated!

To say The Colony is one of the finest and most cherished gems in London is certainly a great accolade, but most of all it provides that warm feeling of a home from home, staff really go above the call of duty to make sure every guest has the most wonderful experience, and the same can be said for breakfast too – everything laid out was immaculate and our choice of eggs and soldiers, along with eggs benedict were cooked to perfection, if I had to use one word to describe not just The Colony, but the entire experience at  The Beaumont it would be – Perfection.

Whether you are on a business trip or a leisurely visit to London if you enjoy the finer things in life, with everything done to the most immaculate standard and with a smile, then I would highly encourage you all to visit The Beaumont, the hidden 5* art deco gem of Mayfair.
