Lisa Goodwin-Allen Brings British Brilliance to Mayfair’s Rosi

Mayfair has never been short of glamour, but few places capture the spirit of classic London hospitality quite like The Beaumont. Tucked discreetly just off Brown Hart Gardens, the hotel feels like a hidden jewel in one of the capital’s most elegant neighbourhoods. Its striking Art Deco architecture, polished interiors and understated sense of luxury have long made it a favourite among travellers who appreciate refinement without ostentation. It is within this distinguished setting that the hotel’s newest dining destination, Rosi, has arrived — a restaurant that blends heritage, creativity and contemporary British cooking with effortless style.

Dining at The Beaumont has always carried a sense of occasion. The building itself exudes quiet confidence. Originally designed in the 1920s and inspired by the sleek geometry of Art Deco modernism, the hotel retains a timeless elegance that feels distinctly different from many of London’s newer luxury properties. Entering through its doors, guests immediately notice the calm sophistication of the space: polished wood, marble floors, soft lighting and carefully curated artwork combine to create an atmosphere that feels both glamorous and welcoming. Rosi, the hotel’s newest restaurant, fits naturally into this world. The dining room feels intimate yet vibrant, with elegant banquettes, warm colours and carefully considered design details that create an atmosphere of relaxed sophistication. It is the kind of restaurant where guests can comfortably settle in for a long lunch or a celebratory dinner, enjoying both the comfort of the surroundings and the quiet energy of Mayfair beyond the windows.

Yet while the setting is impressive, it is the kitchen that truly defines Rosi. At the heart of the restaurant is chef Lisa Goodwin-Allen, one of Britain’s most respected culinary figures and a long-standing Michelin-star holder at the acclaimed Northcote restaurant in Lancashire. Known for her confident cooking style and deep understanding of British ingredients, Goodwin-Allen brings both experience and personality to the restaurant. Her culinary philosophy is rooted firmly in tradition but driven by imagination — a balance that becomes clear the moment one begins to explore the menu. Goodwin-Allen has built a reputation over many years for bold flavours, technical precision and a genuine passion for seasonal British produce. At Rosi she brings those qualities to life through dishes that celebrate the comfort and nostalgia of classic British cooking while presenting them with a contemporary twist. The result is a menu that feels both reassuringly familiar and quietly exciting.

Rather than chasing fleeting culinary trends, Rosi focuses on dishes people genuinely want to eat. Traditional favourites appear throughout the menu, reimagined with wit and confidence. There is a clear sense of playfulness in the cooking, from hearty classics to more refined plates that showcase the chef’s skill and creativity.

During our meal we began with two particularly memorable starters that perfectly captured the kitchen’s approach. The Scotch egg, a beloved British classic, arrived beautifully presented with a crisp golden coating giving way to a rich, perfectly cooked centre. It was indulgent yet refined, demonstrating how a familiar comfort dish can be elevated through thoughtful technique and quality ingredients. Alongside it, the smoked salmon starter offered a more delicate opening to the meal. Fresh, silky slices of salmon were served simply yet elegantly, allowing the quality of the fish to take centre stage. It was a dish that felt both timeless and luxurious, perfectly suited to the calm elegance of the dining room. These opening courses set the tone for the rest of the meal. Signature dishes across the menu include comforting favourites such as old-fashioned pork pie, seafood cocktail and the wonderfully indulgent Chicken Diane, each prepared with careful attention to flavour and presentation.

Other dishes reveal a more playful side of the kitchen, including John Dory fish fingers served with warm tartare sauce — a nostalgic idea elevated with the precision and care expected in a Mayfair dining room. These dishes perfectly capture the essence of Goodwin-Allen’s approach: cooking that respects tradition while embracing modern flair. Each plate feels carefully considered, celebrating the depth and richness of British culinary heritage while allowing the quality of the ingredients to shine. Seasonality also plays a central role in the kitchen’s philosophy. British produce is showcased throughout the menu, with dishes designed to reflect the natural rhythm of the seasons. From fresh seafood to carefully sourced meats and comforting pies, the cooking feels grounded in a deep respect for ingredients and craftsmanship.

Desserts at Rosi provide a particularly memorable conclusion to the meal. Rather than offering predictable finales, the kitchen embraces a sense of theatre and nostalgia. Classic British puddings are reimagined with creativity, including playful interpretations of traditional sponge desserts and indulgent sundaes assembled with a touch of theatrical flair. These dishes not only deliver impressive flavours but also add a sense of fun to the dining experience. Beyond the food itself, the atmosphere within Rosi plays an equally important role. The dining room manages to strike that delicate balance between glamour and comfort. Mayfair restaurants can sometimes lean towards formality, yet Rosi feels lively and welcoming. The space fills gradually with the gentle hum of conversation as diners settle into their meals, creating an energy that feels both sophisticated and relaxed.

Much of this atmosphere is created by the staff, whose warmth and professionalism define the experience from the moment guests arrive. Throughout our visit, the service was exceptional. The team moved through the dining room with quiet confidence, delivering attentive hospitality that felt both natural and genuine.

Staff demonstrated a clear knowledge of the menu and were always happy to offer thoughtful recommendations, but never in a way that felt rehearsed or intrusive. Luxury dining is often defined by these small moments of service — a perfectly timed suggestion, a friendly conversation, a dish explained with enthusiasm. At Rosi these moments come effortlessly, reflecting a team that clearly takes pride in ensuring guests feel welcome and well looked after.

Importantly, this sense of hospitality extends to families as well. While Rosi undoubtedly carries the elegance expected of a Mayfair restaurant, it remains refreshingly welcoming to younger diners. A thoughtfully designed children’s menu ensures that families can enjoy the experience together without compromise, with dishes prepared with the same care and quality found across the rest of the kitchen’s offerings. For parents dining with children, this approach makes a significant difference. It allows families to enjoy the restaurant’s atmosphere and cuisine together while ensuring younger guests feel just as valued as everyone else at the table.

By the end of the evening it becomes clear that Rosi represents more than simply a new restaurant for The Beaumont. Under the guidance of Lisa Goodwin-Allen and her talented team, the restaurant delivers something that feels both contemporary and timeless — a celebration of British cooking presented with elegance, creativity and warmth.
In the softly lit dining room of Rosi, surrounded by the quiet glamour of Mayfair and the confidence of a remarkable kitchen, it is easy to understand why this restaurant is quickly becoming one of London’s most exciting new dining destinations.
