The Parlour at Great Scotland Yard Hotel serves up a Wimbledon-inspired Afternoon Tea

Wimbledon season has arrived in London, and The Parlour at Great Scotland Yard Hotel is marking the occasion with a new tennis-inspired Afternoon Tea that brings a taste of Centre Court to the heart of Westminster. Launched as part of the hotel’s wider Summer Games dining experience, the seasonal menu celebrates the elegance, excitement and traditions of Britain’s summer sporting calendar. Served from June until August, it combines classic afternoon tea favourites with playful creations inspired by tennis and the unmistakable atmosphere surrounding Wimbledon.

Guests can begin with a selection of carefully prepared savouries, including asparagus quiche, a Mediterranean tart with sun-dried tomato, stracciatella and basil, and tarragon chicken salad served on brioche. The menu also features prawn cocktail on pain de mie and prosciutto paired with fig gel and rocket on crisp croutons. Naturally, no afternoon tea would be complete without freshly baked scones. These are accompanied by summer berry jam, alongside a suitably sporting Match Point lemon curd brioche that gives the traditional afternoon tea course a more playful Wimbledon twist.

The cakes and pastries continue the Centre Court theme. Game, Set, Cream reimagines Wimbledon’s famous strawberries and cream as a delicate popsicle, while Summer Whites Couture combines peach and lemon verbena in an elegant Bakewell. Court No. 1 completes the line-up with an indulgent vanilla crémeux and pistachio praline entremet.

The food is accompanied by a collection of premium Jing teas, allowing guests to settle in and enjoy the experience at a suitably leisurely pace. Those looking to make the occasion even more celebratory can elevate their afternoon with a glass of Champagne or one of the hotel’s signature teapot punches. The full experience lasts approximately 90 minutes. It is an afternoon tea designed to capture the spirit of Wimbledon without relying too heavily on sporting novelty. Instead, the menu combines recognisable summer flavours with carefully considered presentation, offering a refined interpretation of one of the highlights of the British social and sporting calendar.

The setting is equally important. The Parlour is an intimate and welcoming dining space inside Great Scotland Yard Hotel, part of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt. During the day, it serves breakfast, lunch and seasonal dishes before transforming into a relaxed setting for the hotel’s creative afternoon tea experiences.

The hotel itself occupies one of London’s most intriguing addresses. The building was once associated with the first headquarters of the Metropolitan Police, and its interiors continue to draw inspiration from the stories, characters and history connected with Great Scotland Yard. Its signature afternoon teas have previously incorporated references to writers including Lewis Carroll, Charles Dickens and Sherlock Holmes creator Arthur Conan Doyle.

Located close to Whitehall, Trafalgar Square, St James’s Park and Covent Garden, The Parlour also provides a convenient retreat from the pace of central London. Visitors can combine the experience with sightseeing, shopping or an afternoon spent following the tennis, while Londoners can use it as an excuse to step away from the office and embrace the atmosphere of Wimbledon season. The Wimbledon-inspired Afternoon Tea is available from 12pm until 7pm as part of Great Scotland Yard Hotel’s Summer Games experience. Advance booking is recommended, particularly during the busiest days of the tournament.

Whether enjoyed by dedicated tennis followers or simply those looking for a distinctive seasonal afternoon tea, the experience offers an elegant celebration of British summertime, served just moments from some of London’s most recognisable landmarks.
